Microsoft project updating tasks
An illustrated guide showing how one person can update the actual work performed by multiple resources using Microsoft Project Online.
This is especially useful when you are using the subscription-based Cloud Version of Microsoft, and wish to save on licenses.
In this case, the information you are entering is already a little out of date. On the Task tab, in the Properties group, click Details.
Let’s suppose that I have collated progress information up to Friday Feb 24 2012 and am entering it on Wednesday Feb 29. On the Project tab, in the Status group, select Status Date. The Task Details Form for the selected taskis displayed.
Let’s look at a few of the ways in which you can track progress on a fairly typical small project.
The first thing to do when you are updating progress is to set the project status date.
By recording actual values in Microsoft Project, you can evaluate project performance and correct course when necessary. No matter what I do, try and change percent completed, set actual finish date or change duration completed, the task always reverts to a random value when I close the update box. When I use "Update Tasks" and I enter the "Actual" Start date and time the "Original" Start date and time changes to the "Actual" start date and time I just updated. When I select the task and click on update I get the update box ok, but when I change percent completed to 100% and then close the box, the value is auto adjusted to a random value% If I then reopne the box and try again, I get a different auto adjusted value : 77%. Project Libre is great and I'm only having one issue.Once your project is up and running you’ll usually want to record progress on a regular basis. In this way you can keep track of not only how you are doing as far as your schedule and milestones are concerned, but also how your financial performance is shaping up.

Basically we are speaking about Work, and Actual work in MS PROJECT 2016! For example, if you need 40 hours for Task, and you finish it in 32 hours, you want that those 40 hours of Work remains unchanged, but % Complete, and % work Complete to be 100%.
